Barcode ribbons are primarily of three types:

Wax-Resin Ribbon – This type of ribbon is used in application where a better print quality and print life is expected on paper labels. The ribbon is used to print on Regular Chromo or Avery labels along with TT2C Labels. Resin Ribbon – This type of ribbon is used to print on Polyester or Tafetta Labels. The quality of print is excellent and the print doest get damaged when printed on polyester or non tearable material or non paper labels.
